POSITION: Caregiver - 2024-2025 School Year Talent Pool
REPORTS TO: Principal & Special Education Department
LOCATIONS:
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Caregiver’s primary role is to support and assist the student(s) with essential daily living skills. The Caregiver may work with students with physical handicaps, intellectual disabilities, chronic or acute health impairment, autism spectrum disorders and behavioral issues.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with feeding as directed by teacher or nurse;
- Assist with clothing and outerwear as directed by teacher;
- Assist with toileting/diapering as directed by teacher or nurse;
- Assist with transitioning student from one location/activity to the next activity/location;
- Lunch supervision of assigned student(s);
- Lift and transfer student as needed as directed by Occupational or Physical Therapist(s);
- Implement consequences to student(s) pursuant to the behavior plan or otherwise, as directed
- Load and unload student(s) from bus;
- Organize essential materials;
- Escort student(s) to nurse at specific times designated by school nurse;
- Escorting student(s) on field trips at the discretion of the administration;
- Support activities in Emergency Care Plan as directed by nurse or teacher;
- Perform other related duties as required
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree, or 60 credit equivalent,
- or a High School Diploma or GED and any amount of credits with passing of ParaPro (ParaPro Exam Link https://www.ets.org/parapro.html)
- Previous experience working with groups of special needs and/or behaviorally challenged youth;
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs;
- Ability to physically restrain student(s) up to 200 lbs
- Relevant medical/nursing experience;
- Specific skills depending on the needs of the student(s);
- Able to participate in Professional Development training and staff meetings as required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Pay will be commensurate with experience, education level, and in accordance with the Hartford Federation of Paraeducators' (HFP) Collective Bargaining Agreement salary schedule. This is a 10-month position, and the salary range for school year 2024 – 2025 is $23,876 to $43,630 per year.
