Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Computational Advanced Gas Reactor Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in our Fuel Development, Performance and Qualification Department department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

You will will work with the Advanced Gas Reactor Post Irradiation Examination team to model fission product transport in AGR experiments, including through nuclear grade graphite in the AGR 3/4 experiment. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and extend finite element models of AGR experiments
  • Model fission product release rates as a function of reactor conditions
  • Measure model uncertainties and create recommendations for partners
  • Write and contribute to scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal publications
  • Develop rudimentary ML models to capture TRISO particle performance characteristics from experimental measurements
Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements: 

    • PhD in Nuclear engineering, computational science, material science/engineering, chemical/mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics or related field completed within the past 5 years
    • Experience creating Finite Element Models of experimental systems
    • Experience with nuclear fuel performance
    • General familiarity with TRISO nuclear fuel composition
    • Proficiency in C++/python. Experience with version control software (git, svn).
    • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms

    • Salary: $96,900 Annually
