The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Construction Services (CS) division is currently accepting applications for a Construction Services Intern to service construction projects at state-owned buildings and properties throughout Connecticut.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Internship starting post spring finals week, ending by August 2025.
  • 40 hours per week for 12 weeks.
  • Occasional telework may be available, however On-Site work is expected for the duration of the internship.
  • Location: 450 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford, CT.
  • Some travel to various job sites will be required. 


THE ROLE

As a Construction Services Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with impactful construction projects at State-owned buildings and properties by collaborating with various experienced professionals throughout the construction industry. The successful candidate may report to the Assistant Director of Project Management (ADPM) or the Project Manager depending on the assignment, to ensure that you receive comprehensive mentorship while working independently. This will enable you to develop a diverse range of skills throughout your internship duration.

The Construction Services Intern can expect to:
  • Learn the Owner’s Representative perspective within the construction industry.
  • Participate in pre-construction and bid phase activities.
  • Assist the project team with on-site review of construction progress against established project schedules.
  • Support the Project Manager with monitoring and reporting on project work in the field, including preparing required project reporting documentation.
  • Communicate with and update client agencies, design firms, consulting firms, and contractors.
  • Prepare tracking and status reports.
  • Work within a highly collaborative environment that encourages learning and professional growth.
  • Participate in OSHA Safety Training.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong understanding of construction management terms and processes.
  • The desire to learn more about and be involved in all aspects of a project life cycle.
  • The ability to prioritize and manage stakeholder involvement in different types of projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

The Construction Services division is the state’s primary department for State Building Construction Projects (otherwise known as “Capital Building Construction Projects”) requested by Connecticut Executive and Judicial Branch State Agencies. Examples of Capital Building Construction Projects include the construction, remodeling, or renovation of buildings and improvements to property and grounds at courthouses, correctional facilities, Connecticut State College and University campuses and facilities, hospitals and health care facilities, state parks, research laboratories, state office buildings, and police and fire training facilities. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Currently matriculated in an accredited Associate's, Bachelor's, or advanced degree program, pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications including Outlook, Excel, Project, and TEAMS. 
  • Experience with Project Management Software such as eBuilder, PM Web, or Procore.
  • Experience or coursework relevant to the critical path method of scheduling.
