The Role

The Director, Derivatives role is a highly visible, dynamic role reporting to the VP, Derivatives that affords you the opportunity to manage a team and work closely with our trading desk and business partners. This role will help maintain a high level of quality within the team while working to improve efficiency in support of a growing business. In this role you will create routines to track the teams' deliverables while balancing workloads and staffing needs. This individual will liaise with key stakeholders across FFIO and Asset Management to ensure alignment on key initiatives and business objectives. This role is critical to supporting all aspects of the Derivatives trade lifecycle processing including onboarding, trade confirmation, periodic payments, collateral management, and reconciliation for all Derivatives products. You will also partner with the VP, Derivatives to help set the vision and strategy to set the team up for success in the future.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 12+ years Middle Office operations experience, Derivatives required
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Thorough understanding of Derivatives asset types including but not limited to swaps, options, and futures.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Strong presentation capability and excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Innovative - looks for new ways to improve current processes and develops creative solutions
  • Consistent track record of people leadership skills (hiring, training, motivating, managing)
  • Ability to build relationships and inspire teamwork and collaboration
  • Ability to make decisions with limited/minimal oversight or guidance
  • In-depth understanding of global middle office functions and investment operations industry
  • Detailed knowledge of securities and monetary transactions with associated financial services industry systems, standards, and regulatory conditions
  • Ability to recognize high risk items and handle those items or seek assistance to minimize loss to either the shareholder and or/Fidelity
  • Provide functional and technical area expertise, oversight, problem resolution, training, analysis and reporting as the need arises across a variety of group responsibilities
  • Represent the team in cross-functional initiatives and in presentations to senior leadership
  • Accountable for ensuring client requests are processed within stated service level agreements and adhere to Fidelity and regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure that all processes have sufficient risk and compliance controls
  • Identify areas of risk and work to mitigate them
  • Ensure that functions associated with department responsibilities are addressed in a timely fashion
  • Monitor key performance indicators to address factors that are affecting the customer experience
  • Work with managers and peers to recommend and implement changes to systems, processes, responsibilities, reporting, etc.
  • Provide strategic vision and long-range plans within unit to ensure culture of continuous operational improvement
  • Delegate assignments, empower associates, and manage daily performance of the team
  • Cross team collaboration to identify solutions to support new derivatives trading strategies and products.

The Team

As part of Fidelity Fund and Investment Operations (FFIO) business unit, the Derivatives team is responsible for facilitating the processing, confirmation, and settlement of Derivatives trades in support of Accounting and Trading. This role requires great attention to detail, ability to work in a time sensitive environment and the ability to "think outside of the box." In addition to the technical aspect of the role, the individual also performs project work, looks for process improvements, partakes in training and development opportunities and is part of a larger team effort.

Fidelity Fund Investment Operations (FFIO) acts as a servicing center for FMR Co.'s trading desks globally, facilitating the confirmation and settlement of security and currency transactions with brokers and custodian banks, and providing daily cash estimates to Trading. The Derivatives team within Trade Operations provides support to Fidelity's domestic and international equity, high yield, fixed income, and foreign exchange trading desks located in Boston, Merrimack, London, and Hong Kong.
