Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $29.55.

We have an opening for an EHS Technician at our Johns Manville plant in Jacksonville, FL. JM Jacksonville manufactures polyisocyanurate foam insulation panels for use in roofing systems. We produce foam panels as well as specialty items such as tapered, vented, composite, nail board and sheathing products.

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, with overtime as needed.

You will be required to work off shifts bi-weekly or as needed to support safety initiatives.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in managing safety culture and ergonomics on the plant floor.
  • Perform daily EHS checklists, review Safety Hazard IDs, audit Preventative Maintenance forms, create/audit JSAs, assist in risk assessment creation/review, perform monthly SPCC and SWPPP inspections, and manage 5S program.
  • Participate and provide leadership for the Plant Safety committee to drive engagement from all shifts and all departments within the plant.
  • Act as an EHS liaison for facility department managers in the absence of the facility EHS Specialist.
  • Conduct daily plant walk-throughs and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Follow-up and assist with injury cases and significant near misses.
  • Conduct safety onboarding for new hires, outside contractors, and visitors.
  • Assist with computer-based training for safety and environmental under current learning management systems.
  • Conduct quarterly storm water sampling.
  • Assist in VPP Start management and re-certifications
  • Serve as facility forklift train-the-trainer and support plant departments with forklift.
  • Conduct lockout tagout clear try training.
  • Follow up with the maintenance supervisor for status and schedule updates for any safety or environmental work orders approaching or past the due date.
  • Engage in noise reduction projects.
  • Assist in managing universal and hazardous waste collection points. Conduct weekly waste inspections.
  • Assist with creating and conducting specific topic classroom trainings quarterly.
  • Lead biannual tank cleaning activities, which includes overseeing confined space reclassification, task specific safety training, safety device audits, and group lockout.
  • Conduct forklift and lock tag clear try training.
  • Participate in the MOC process and continuous improvement process.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Having, or working toward, a degree is preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience in a safety and/or environmental role in an industrial setting is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a plant environment.
  • Experience with Confined Space, lockout tagout/lock tag clear try, etc. preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing preferred.
  • Leadership skills to implement initiatives and supervise safety teams.
  • Passionate about working safely.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Ability to use a variety of software applications to analyze, monitor data, create reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently.
