Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under direct supervision, assists students, faculty and the general public in obtaining library circulating and reserve resources. Circulates library materials and maintains patron records using the Sirsi Dynix Symphony Workflows Library Information Management System.  Issues College IDs to faculty, staff, and students. Interprets and enforces established library policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides customer service assistance to library patrons serving as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email; refers patrons to reference librarians when additional assistance is needed
  • Interprets and enforces circulation/library policies and procedures for students, College staff and the public
  • Participates in the development of documentation for Circulation procedures. Uses the Sirsi Dynix Symphony Workflows Library Information Management System and the iStar (PeopleSoft) database to perform circulation services
  • Creates college ID/library cards for faculty, staff, and students. Maintains and cleans Id equipment and tracks Id supplies
  • Collects monies for fines and lost materials and updates patron records accordingly.
  • Processes library requests for intra-library and inter-library loans
  • Assists library patrons in the use of computers, copy machines, and other library reserved equipment. Assists patrons in the Pharos pay to print system
  • Retrieves, sorts, and processes library materials from mail bins into holds and received transits, and distributes accordingly
  • Maintains supplies and forms, straightens materials and equipment, and records daily activity statistics
  • Participates in shelf reading, collection inventory, and repair of materials
  • Monitors security gates, public access computers, and the copy room.
  • Assists with library programs and special projects as needed, and responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is mostly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, Employee must be able to lift 40 pounds, e.g. books, courier bins, or cases of paper; there may be some walking, standing, carrying books, and bending or stretching to shelve items.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:  

  • Ability to work either a morning or afternoon/evening assignment
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment,
  • calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $11.32.
