The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) – Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center – Hospital, South Campus –is accepting applications for one (1) part-time Physician position, in Middletown, CT.

Position Highlights: PCN 43136

  • Part-time | 17 Hours per week
  • On-site with On-call duties


In your role as an Physician, you will:

  • Provide 24-hour medical supervision to specified groups of patients and facility coverage as scheduled, including on-call and weekend coverage;
  • Examine, diagnose and medically treat patients;
  • Develop and monitor integrated treatment plans;
  • Interview, examine and admit patients to treatment;
  • Perform physical examinations;
  • Order, analyze and interpret medical and laboratory tests;
  • Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments;
  • Coordinate treatment with other therapeutic programs;
  • Provide medical expertise and consultation to treatment teams;
  • Order and monitor special treatment procedures;
  • Perform discharge planning;
  • Participate in staff meetings;
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records and prepare required reports according to hospital policy and/or JCAHO and HCFA standards;
  • Perform related duties as required.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)


In a state agency this class is accountable for providing part-time medical treatment services to patients.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY


  • Knowledge of
    • methods and principles of medicine and surgery; 
    • current principles and methods of assessment and treatment of patients with medical illness, mental illness and substance abuse disorders; 
    • recent developments in field of medicine and substance abuse; 
  • Skills
    • interpersonal skills; 
    • oral and written communication skills; 
  • Ability to
    • examine for, diagnose, assess and treat patients with medical and/or substance abuse disorders; 
    • prescribe appropriate medications and other treatments specific to medical illness, mental illness and substance abuse disorders; 
    • analyze and interpret laboratory reports, x-rays and other medical reports and findings; 
    • maintain accurate patient records and charts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE


Completion of one (1) year of a residency program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Experience with Connecticut public medical systems of care.
  • Experience providing medical care to children and adolescents in mental health facilities.
  • Experience as an on-site covering physician.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Incumbents must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. 1320a-7b(f).
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut. A temporary license may be granted for a period not to exceed one (1) year.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to demonstrate continued competency and proficiency in the practice of medicine by successfully completing an established agency program.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be board-certified in internal medicine, family medicine or neurology.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual.
