Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Pre-Admission Nurse is responsible for coordinating care for our outpatient surgical patients. This includes reviewing health history & evaluating outpatient eligibility before surgery. The LPN collaborates with Anesthesia, Surgeons, our ENT clinics, and outside medical offices to ensure patient safety during the perioperative period. In this position, the nurse will review patient medical histories and complete preoperative chart reviews. The nurse will be responsible for accurately obtaining, assessing and identifying potential risks and barriers to expected outcomes.
- Chart all vital information in electronic record as well as check to be sure all information related to medication, health history and reason for visit is obtained and documented
- Perform phone triage, post-op calls and respond to voicemail messages directed to them preferably within same business day, but no later than 24 business hours, and perform action required. Documents all encounters.
- Coordinate care and diagnostic testing at other facilities as indicated by physician
- Follow all other daily team duties and special tasks as assigned
The Pre-Admission Nurse may also provide breaks to RNs in the ASC, assist with daily workflow, and perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills and Abilities
- Ambulatory Surgery Center nursing experience
- Experience reviewing medical records and redacting pertinent information to the context of the care being provided
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- CPR, ACLS and PALS accreditation, or will obtain within 3 months of hire
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited LPN Program required
- Current Washington State LPN license required
- 1-2 years’ experience in a medical office a plus
- Familiarity with or working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
- Basic computer knowledge and skills, including data entry
Job Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of pre-surgical care, including strong assessment skills and recognition of reportable concerns
- Strong critical thinking and ability to recognize medical conditions that may increase a patient’s risk of having surgery
- Familiarity with anesthesia medication effects and knowledge of medical concerns that may increase patient’s risk of undergoing anesthesia
- Understanding of operative procedures, required patient preparations, and expected post-operative course
