Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Integrated Marketing, the Senior Copywriter will craft excellent original content and invent new ideas to connect with audiences through multiple media and marketing channels. This role is responsible for driving the creation of original concepts that result in effective and compelling communication. The Senior Copywriter will develop editorial themes and author content for students, faculty and alumni while also creating content to attract new students. This role requires the ability to use data to make marketing decisions and will assist with other creative processes, such as the visual element selection process to provide a best-in-class consumer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Marketing, Content, Creative, Project Management and Technology teams to develop a variety of content marketing materials to achieve business objectives in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Interpret creative direction and adapt points from creative briefs into persuasive copy concepts.
- Conduct necessary research and interviews with internal stakeholders to understand their content needs and achieve content/creative objectives.
- Ability to adapt writing style based on platform of content – such as SEO, radio, email, blogs, and print ads.
- Write high-engagement content that reflects our brand's voice, focused on delivering performance in brand recognition, email open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates, and SEO rankings.
- Mentor other writers by curating helpful information and providing internal feedback.
- Create, edit, and proof content and copy for marketing communications through various media channels. Write great subject lines, provide an enjoyable reading experience, and effectively convert leads to enrolled students.
- Proactively identify customers' needs and gaps in content and recommend new topics.
- Propose copy concepts and present underlying strategic thinking to business leaders.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines.
- Understanding different language styles that appeal to various target audiences.
- Developing and maintaining a clear and consistent brand voice, including managing, and updating the organization’s writing style guide.
- Assisting in other aspects of the creative or research processes to create cohesive, accurate content.
- Assisting with proofing and copyediting to ensure all-around content consistency (style, images, and tone).
- Provide guidance to other team members on AP style, grammar, voice, and tone.
- Proactively brainstorm campaign and copy ideas, particularly in the direct-response field, including researching emerging trends and proposing new approaches to the team.
- Ensure all copy adheres to compliance requirements, collaborating with the legal team when necessary to create appropriate disclosures or find proper citations.
- Propose A/B email testing and analyze results in order to improve email open rates and click-through rates.
- Incorporate SEO keywords into website copy as needed, ensuring keywords flow naturally into the copy.
- Periodically review blog and website copy to ensure statistics and information are still accurate.
- Adheres to College/University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College/University's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and as required to meet the needs of the College/University and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
- Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
- Maintains order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to regularly exercise independent discretion and judgement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or Creative field - English, copywriting, creative writing, art, or similarly related field or relevant related experience.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Experience in producing copy for digital, print and/or broadcast channels.
- Experience writing compelling call to action and direct response marketing language preferred.
- Familiar with digital channels and strategies, inclusive of new and emerging platforms that support content/message delivery.
- Be highly creative and imaginative.
- Have an interest in commerce, popular culture, and new advertising trends and techniques.
- Ability to formulate advanced copy concepts and solutions that demand a high degree of creativity, innovation, and ingenuity.
- Experience working within and developing style guides and AP Style.
- Campaigns have timelines - able to make timely decisions regarding copy.
- Strong proofing and copyediting skills.
- Familiarity working with web design teams, creative teams, content teams, SEO teams, PPC teams.
- High level of analytical and technological skills to analyze competitive trends, look at new data, and provide recommendations.
- Curious individual with a broad mindset.
- An ability to face stressful and uncertain situations with calmness and composure and inspiring a team to do the same.
- Ability to work comfortably with management in the development and approval process.
- Ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a collaborative setting.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Great people skill to relate well with others in person or through the content.
Compensation:
- $68,109.78 - $98,769.79
