Pay Range
$90,000.00-$123,800.00 AnnualThis is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
Johns Manville is hiring a Sr. Product Engineer. This role can be based at our Waterville, OH or Defiance, OH plant. At the interface between sales, product management and operations/engineering the main task of the job holder is to independently carry out new product development projects for the filtration and separation sector. He/she is responsible for the planning, execution, evaluation, documentation and assessment of the production trials. He/she is also responsible for the internal or external execution as well as the evaluation of application and customer specific tests. The work results are presented in the context of internal and external meetings. The work environment entails corresponding travel. The identification of weak points in the area of product, process and technology as well as the development of proposals and measures for continuous improvement complete the job holders field of activity.
Your Day to Day:
- Lead filtration and separation new product development following a multistage development process (including international projects).
- Development of new product ideas and new products based on assigned projects including the required documentation in the relevant authoritative documentation system.
- Technical contact for customers
- Testing and evaluation of news feedstocks
- Planning and execution of production trial runs
- Computer-aided evaluation and documentation of tests and test results
- Identification of weak points in the area of product, process and technology and development of proposals and measures for continuous improvement
- Commissioning, monitoring and evaluation of relevant tests
- Commissioning of external customer specific testing and certification
- Research, test and document performance comparison between JM and competitive products
- Support sales on technical issues and as needed during joint customer visits
- Participate, actively contribute and present work results at internal meetings as well as during development meetings with clients
- Literature research and tracking of new technological developments as well as patent analysis
- Develop patents trade secrets and or other intellectual property that provides a strategic business advantage
- Understand all test methods related to product performance requirements
- Maintain or write all necessary documentation such as Technical Data Sheets, Finished Product Specifications, Research Reports, Product and Raw Material Qualification Reports etc.
- Participate in industry trade associations as required
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, process) science or relevant technical field with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience
- Master’s degree or PhD preferred with a minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to choose alternatives and to modify methods, designs and general practices
- Knowledge of statistics and data-driven decisions
- Ability to make compelling case for technical recommendations to a business
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
- Proven project management skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

- Moderate travel required 25 to 35% both domestic and internationally
- When working in a plant may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold heat high noise levels moving mechanical parts heights dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing etc.
- May be required to lift carry push or pull up to and including 25 lbs
