SQUAD LEADER
The Role
As a Health & Welfare Core Record Keeping Squad Leader, you blend benefits administration knowledge, leadership, and product development experience with a passion for creating customer value and delivering results. As the product owner you are the end-to-end gatekeeper of the squad mission, strategy, and tactical execution associated with delivering on strategic priorities. In an agile structure, you will partner with other Fidelity leaders to influence the broader strategic decisions, roadmaps and resource requirements, set and refine the mission, and bring together a team of chapter members to execute on specific product features and ensure respective products or services are available, stable, performant and supported when required. You will ensure alignment on the 'what' and 'when' work is to be performed through ongoing planning and prioritization of a product backlog. You will enable squad members to work iteratively, innovate through testing and experimentation and learn from failures while celebrating success. You are committed to developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure you bring the latest thinking to your role.
- Providing leadership for one or a small set of squads in alignment with the overall product area strategy
- Defining, refining, and communicating the squads' mission and roadmap to motivate and build team and partner support and alignment
- Making decisions that can impact business results with guidance from leaders. Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client / partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the team
- Measuring performance against established objectives and KPI's that deliver on agreed upon business, technology, and people results
- Defining, evaluating, and communicating results against acceptance criteria. Engages with stakeholders regularly to monitor and share progress.
- Inspecting and evaluating progress, and removing impediments
- Collaborating and coordinating with Chapter Leaders and Scrum Masters to build squad capacity and capability and enabling squad member growth, development and learning
- Making informed trade-off decisions to strike the right balance between quality, cost, and timelines
- Maintaining an understanding of client and market needs, preferences, and priorities
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Scrum Product Owner Certification (CSPO) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or similar designations are a plus
- 7+ years in agile, product management, technology and/or business
- At least 5 years' experience in the Health & Welfare or similar benefits outsourced administration services business;
- Experience designing, developing and maintaining dynamic products and solutions
- Financial services and/or benefits administration experience, including familiarity with the regulatory environment, preferred
- Agile experience
- Jira and Jira Align experience preferred
- You take a data-focused approach to understanding customer needs, translate strategic objectives into action, and prioritize to improve value delivered
- You grasp sophisticated product features and break them into clear and concise stories with well-defined business value and acceptance criteria and optimally communicate these
- You have a strong focus on execution and identify, communicate and remove impediments to progress
- You are capable of leading, influencing, and motivating colleagues without formal authority, and have a track record of building high-performing teams
- You continuously improve and encourage an agile way of working
- You establish and maintain unquestioning relationships as you work collaboratively across Fidelity to deliver business outcomes and seek out the expertise of colleagues to advise on your approach
- You are intellectually curious and model a culture of continuous learning, mentoring and coaching
- You have or are committed to developing a balance of technology and non-technology skills in order to fully appreciate the broad needs of our customers
- You possess strong business/technical knowledge related to core record keeping services related to eligibility, rate, and coverage calculations, retiree medical benefits, event and related data processing, as well as a working knowledge of regulatory items affecting Health & Welfare administration.
The Team
You work in partnership with the Health & Welfare administration offering and platform Product Area Leader, other Squad Leaders, Scrum Master, and Chapter Leaders aligned to your squad. By demonstrating and promoting Fidelity and agile leadership behaviors, you sustain and evolve our innovative agile culture. You will work within a large and evolving product offering, development, and support program, including numerous interdependent Agile squads.
