Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Supervisor, Client Technologies provides technical support and analysis for College employees and students by performing a lead role in implementing support strategies.  Acts as a liaison between the client and desktop support staff in complex or sensitive situations.   A member of a 24/7/365 global department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and maintains PC, peripherals and in-house audio-visual equipment as required. This includes operating, maintaining, distributing, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading PC, various audio-visual and media products while ensuring their optimal performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion. Responsible for technology services support. Provides end-user training and assistance where required
  • Supervises other OTS employees. Monitors and oversees the daily activities of the assigned support team. Provides technical leadership, assistance, and on-the-job training, and serves as a mentor/developmental advisor, providing an example with regard to quality of work. Ensures that others comply with established standards
  • Identifies, evaluates, and resolves client problems and issues, including escalated issues
  • Monitors the issues requests to determine areas for preventative actions
  • Coordinates the tracking of technical infrastructure
  • Provides and maintains a strong technical knowledge of desktop operations and service delivery
  • Works collaboratively with local administration, faculty, and support personnel in the implementation of Campus/System-wide projects; works collaboratively with campus leadership to maintain open lines of communication to ensure reliable, available, and secure technology use environment
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses desktop and any other system problems in a timely manner, and works collaboratively with Campus OTS teams to resolve issues
  • Participates in asset management and budget planning process to meet needs of the Campus
  • May develop factual presentations in order to inform and educate. Translates technical or procedural information into specifications or action plans. Conveys technical or complex information to others in non-technical terms
  • Manages their own work tickets as well as the departmental queue
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to analyze data and interpret detailed information and convert to knowledge-based reports and recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with overlapping time-frames while still meeting deadlines
  • Strong initiative and analytical skills
  • Strong working knowledge of PC's and related software, with a focus on Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in Microsoft Windows or Mac environments, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment and outside in non-climate controlled areas
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations 
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary 
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree and at least 5 years related work experience, with at least 1 year of prior experience supervising in the technology industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One additional year of work experience may be substituted for each required certification
  • CompTIA A+ Certification or industry recognized equivalent
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Technology operational leadership experience in a higher education institution desired
  • 6 years of related work experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Project management experience
  • CompTIA Project+ Certification or industry recognized equivalent
  • ITIL Foundations or industry recognized equivalent

Salary

Hiring salary range is $60,295 - $69,339.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions.  Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.  Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.  The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
