Title: Temporary – Supplemental Instruction Leaders, All Campuses (Pool)

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Learning Center Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are trained in planning and facilitating collaborative and group learning in regularly scheduled study sessions for Nashville State students who are enrolled in targeted courses. SI sessions are scheduled group meetings in which SI Leaders help students in the SI session interact with the material in a more engaging way.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends all Supplemental Instruction sessions and course lectures, takes notes and models appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors.  Creates lesson plans for Supplemental Instruction sessions and prepares all materials Submits lesson plans and materials prior to scheduled SI sessions for approval and feedback.  Submits attendance records, time sheets, and other paperwork to SI Coordinator timely.   Attends staff meetings and training sessions to learn new Supplemental Instruction strategies.  Holds additional Supplemental Instruction sessions up to four times during the semester outside of the regularly scheduled sessions.  Meets with assigned faculty members for 1.5 hours maximum per month, as deemed appropriate by Supplemental Instruction Leader and faculty member.

Maintains professional communication with the course instructor, including holding periodic meetings to debrief SI sessions and address personal or student concerns.  Acts as peer support for students and refers students to campus support services as needed, including immediately reporting critical issues to the coordinator. Becomes familiar with the technology/resources in the classrooms.   Completes program assessment surveys and administers surveys in Supplemental Instruction sessions or course lectures as needed.  Checks email and SI Program messaging system regularly. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a current Nashville State student and completed a minimum of 15 credit hours of college-level course work, not including learning support, with a 2.5 Cumulative GPA in college-level courses and earned at least a B in MATH 1000, MATH 1010, or MATH 1530.  Must have access to a reliable internet connection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate course content. Strong organization and time management skills. Ability to report to a campus location for the work assignment.

Rate of Pay: $15.50 per hour. 

Work Hours: 12-15 hours per week typically but may vary.  This is a grant-funded position.
