Overview/Purpose:

Assists the production leadership team by overseeing an individual line of production operations.  Tasks include direction of staff (packers), requesting resources and supplies, organizing the line for change-overs within specified times, and documenting line metrics for their shift.  Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a high-speed manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and redirect labor on their line as-needed or as-directed by leadership.
  • Conduct and record results for pre-start safety and sanitation inspections, pre-post operation form, and other key shift metrics for their line.
  • Consistently monitor various pieces of equipment on their line throughout processing.
  • Adjust settings for key equipment on their lines as needed and/or request maintenance support as-needed.
  • Maintain clean work areas, including disposal of trash and cardboard at the end of the shift.
  • Monitor scrap/waste on their line, record and report data.
  • Report damaged product, bad seals, WIP defects, etc.
  • Communicate with Production lead as needed to maintain adherence to production schedule.
  • Train employees: how to perform their job faster and more reliably and encourage employees with good ideas. Provide feedback to employees concerning mistakes made and ways to improve during the process, maintaining positive employee morale.
  • Participate in weekly production leadership team meetings.
  • Ensure company policies are carried out in production in a safe working environment.
  • Has broad discretionary authority to ensure line is functioning safely and properly and to shut down the machinery when conditions warrant.
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues and initiate action.
  • Follow all Food Safety guidelines, such as, but not limited to:
    • GMP’s / Allergen Program / Quality / HACCP / Sanitation / Safety
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Proven strong safety record
  • Ability to work well with and command the respect of associates and team members
  • Ability to make simple math calculation & measurements is required
  • Bi-lingual with Spanish speaking and writing skills preferred
  • Effective communication skills with coworkers and supervisors
  • Possess manual dexterity to manipulate machinery
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height on an intermittent basis
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Understanding of basic principles of the SQF program and other food safety policies/procedure
  • Available to work overtime/weekend as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct – None
  • Indirect – Packers and utility operators including temporary labor

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • New starting wage is $18.00 / hour (commensurate with experience and location). *Note that rate could change based on shift schedule.
