This role manages credit risk and provides decisioning for Commercial Banking Innovation Banking, exercising delegated credit authority for credit exposure arising from new and existing clients. Ensures appropriate lending structures and controls are in place to handle inherent and unique risks in reviewed transactions. Consults with businesses regarding appropriate credit facility structuring to meet Company standards, regulatory guidelines and client needs. Reports to Head of Credit for US Innovation Banking.
As our Vice President Credit Officer you will:
- Review or provide credit approvals, ensure credit quality is maintained, provide portfolio oversight, and ensure credit policy, guidelines, and processes are followed for designated loan portfolios
- Evaluate loan application requests, including evaluation of key risk, loan structure and terms, company business plan and model, financial performance, investors, management, industry dynamics, and macro-economic factors
- Review, recommend, and/or approve loan applications for the Innovation Banking division within delegated credit approval authority, ensuring adherence to all applicable credit approval policy, lending guidelines, and procedures
- Provide portfolio oversight through management of portfolio reviews, ensuring timely management of credit risk ratings, out of compliance issues, past due loans, and remediation actions
- Ensure credit quality of assigned portfolio is maintained within prescribed credit quality metrics
- Ensure compliance with Bank Credit Policy, risk appetite limits, lending guidelines, as well as adherence to all Regulatory requirements and controls
- Participate in the development and implementation of credit policies, lending guidelines, and procedures for assigned areas of the Company to ensure credit process integrity and prudent management of overall credit quality. Develop and recommend strategies for problem credits in compliance with credit policy to optimize value
- Implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators
- Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
- Complete other responsibilities, as assigned
For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $134,500.00 and $201,800.00
The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

RequirementsYou´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:
- Minimum of 10-15 years proven, progressive and broad-based experience in credit, lending and/or workout areas or equivalent with focus on pre-cash flow start-up borrowers, preferably venture debt
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, related field or equivalent experience
- Credit products and pertinent US regulations
- Ability to identify, evaluate and discuss credit risk
- Professional work experience in a bank
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Decision-making and the ability to manage conflict
