These 2 positions will float between locations. One position base location will be Richmond County, and one in Columbia County. These positions may provide services in other District 6 counties as needed.  Relocation assistance is no offered.  Must be within a reasonable commuting distance.   If relocating to the area, please specify on the application.

  The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Environmental Health Specialist for the Environmental Health Department.

Job Responsibilities

Primarily responsible for business complaints and restaurant education for
protocol across the 13-county District.
All other general responsibilities, under direct supervision of the District Environmental Health Director, will be to provide inspection/permitting/consultation for compliance of
state rules and regulations for the Environmental Health Program for the
following facilities within the district: Food Service, Public Pools, Tourist
Accommodations, and Body Art.
In addition, whoever is hired will train to provide services within Wastewater Management, Well Water, Emergency Preparedness, Rabies, and other environmental health programs as well as investigate all assigned health-related complaints received. Salary may
be adjusted based on prior experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited four-year college or
university which included the completion of forty (40) quarter hours (or 27
semester hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology,
physics, etc.) OR Bachelor’s Degree in a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of a major in environmental health science.
Completion of a Masters degree.
Current registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
or Registered Sanitarian (RS) by the National Environmental Health Association
(NEHA),
or the recognized credentialing board of a state or country having equivalent standards as NEHA. Currently qualified as a Standardized Retail Food Inspection Officer

Starting Salary: $42,819.47

  Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
 
  DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
